Two remarks:

1. There's no shame in asking for advice. Just don't demonize anyone when you're describing the situation. People in authority hate it when they feel they're being forced to choose sides.

2. For us "lay people" (non librarians who don't work in public schools), please explain what a para is.

Para is short for paraprofessional, which is educatorese for "teaching aide." The official term, I believe, is Education Support Personnel (ESP), but para is standard. How and why that changed over the years from "teaching aide" I don't know.

Yeah, so I approached my direct supervisor about it...we'll talk next week. I agree about not demonizing. For me it's not about winning a power battle, it's about finding a solution to a presently unmanageable situation. The solutions are out there--it's just a matter of not having these teachers interfere with it out of vindictiveness, and that is where having the support of my administrator comes in.

I really have trouble understanding the incivility and lack of respect I see among so many teachers. They often have trouble seeing beyond their immediate needs, it seems, and because as a non-classroom teacher I am not on anyone's team, I easily become a scapegoat.
